No more Episode Reviews for Season 4 The Walking Dead

Hi Guys,

I have decided to stopped writing episode reviews for the rest of The Walking Dead Season 4 because this season is SO GOOD!!!! I haven't encountered one single episode that is not worth watching and the only thing that will compel me to write is for them to destroy the rest of the other episodes. It is hard to write a review without spoiling it for you so I will enjoy watching it with the rest of the fanatics out there.

On the other hand, I am destroyed that Hershel is beheaded!!!! F*** The Governor!!! I hope you are finally dead. I am actually looking forward where they are taking the series. BUT NEXT YEAR?!?! I need my daily dose of ZOMBIES! Now I have no choice but to replay old episodes. I so want to cry!

Delivery Man Movie Review

Category: Popcorn Movie

I am pretty impressed with the recent choices of Vince Vaughn. The movies are not quite what I have expected since most of his past movies are rubbish. Delivery Man is a breath of fresh air. Mr. Vaughn has finally learned to speak his dialogues in a normal manner, THANK GOD!

I love the premise of the movie because it is quite unique. The protagonist having fathered 533 children through a sperm donor clinic. Apparently, they think his sperm is high- quality and was wrongly used several times by the same clinic. Why high quality as mentioned by the rep of the clinic? I am not sure because the originator of all those sperms does not meet that description exactly. David Wozniac, also anonymously known in the film as "Starbuck" is a meat delivery man for their family business. As his father points out in the latter part of the movie, he takes four times as long to deliver as most normal delivery guys does. He owns a lot of money because he gets easily scammed by just about anyone. The guy is basically an irresponsible slob. His choice of sidekick is his childhood friend whom I am not exactly sure if married or single parent to four children nor a licensed practitioner of law. Throughout the movie, we see the character's maturity grow after being informed of his "situation" and one by one attempts to bond with his "children".

The movie tries to be a feel good one or rather tries too hard. There are several parts that seems redundant or useless and I felt there are parts that weren't executed very well. On the other hand, there are scenes that are heart- felt and hilarious. Is it an enjoyable film? It is. Is it worth to watch in a cinema? Probably not. Unless you have money to spare. If not, wait for HBO.

Ender's Game Movie Review

Category: Popcorn Movie

I have been waiting to watch this movie and quite anxious to watch it since it has been opened in the US for quite some time. The thing that amazes me is how technology has evolved especially in the special effects department. Ender's Game did not disappoint in that area. The actor playing the lead is fortunate to be surrounded with amazing, talented actors/actress which included Harrison Ford, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin to name a few. On the other hand, Asa Butterfield is tailor- made to play Ender in this film. I haven't read the book but the way he played his character in the big screen sealed the deal for me.

Watching Ender's Game is like watching Hunger Games but in a bigger scale. The military are recruiting 15 year olds to spearhead their campaign against an alien race. Training them to be assassins at an early age. Not exactly an ideal childhood. What is even more amazing is children during that time are very keen in getting recruited to the prestigious battle school and if you fail, the disappointment is clearly etched and felt by everyone. Meaning the whole family. Now that is disturbing. However, this is an ideal arrangements because as explained in the film, children are gifted "game players" which is an important requirement in battle school. Apparently, those who plays plenty of Xbox and PlayStation now are likely to have better future than those who doesn't during that particular era.

A lot of people can actually learn from Ender's character. He uses his mind rather than his fists in defeating his enemies. Learn their flaws and strengths and using it to "destroy" them. And that is coming from a 15 year old boy! I am not sure if that is realistic. It's great to watch Harrison Ford in a science fiction action film again. He commands the screen and has great chemistry with the young actor. I am not sure why the director did not utilize Viola Davis too much though. Why cast her if she only has limited time screen I wonder?

What I love about the film is it is not all superficial and there is actually a lot of substance. I enjoyed the "battles" quite a lot and looking forwarding to watching it again. Cannot wait for the Bluray! I highly recommend anyone to watch it. It's pretty great and enjoyable to watch and wishing that they will do a sequel for this one.

Disney's Animated Feature Film " FROZEN" Movie Review

Category: Popcorn Movie

I love watching animated movies for as long as I can remember. I laugh, cry and I memorize the lines of the film. Before I re- watch a film, I make sure I am emotionally prepared because I usually ended up crying in some scenes. However, I must say in this one I did not. It's not exactly a bad thing.

Frozen is loosely based on the story about the Snow Queen but instead of seeing the evil version, you see her here as a very caring one. My problem with the film is the abundance of musical numbers. On the other hand, I enjoyed some of the songs and very surprised that Kristen Bell is singing all her part. I have been a huge fan of hers since Veronica Mars days (Can't wait for the film version!) and I did not realize she can sing so well. I hope they nominated a song from this movie where she can sing live in the Academy Awards with Idina Menzel.

The movie is very simple and straightforward. It feels like Disney seems to be going back to their old school ways like the time of the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast etc. However, I felt that the musical scores for this film are inferior compare to those Disney Classics. The classics' scores fit perfectly in every scene; here in Frozen, some scenes feels forced and out of place. Personally, I don't see a Disney Classic. It is not a bad animated film except I do not think it is for everyone like most Pixar- produced ones.

Overall, if you have kids, they will definitely enjoy it. If you plan to watch it with friends and love musicals then go for it but if not, then think before you spend your money.

Call Center Girl starring Pokwang, Enchong Dee and Jessy Mendiola Movie Review

Category: Popcorn Movie

I actually did not plan to watch this movie. The reason I did because I was itching to watch one this Friday. I need to feed my addiction and this was it because the movie "Frozen" is scheduled for next day.

I have no expectation for Call Center Girl, I was just wishing that it won't suck big time. I am neither a fan nor a hater for the film's stars. The film is about the returning parent after being absent for almost a decade working for a cruise line. The husband is crippled and the wife took it upon herself to be the breadwinner of the family. She returned finding her youngest child has serious abandonment issues and worse, the husband died following his birthday celebration. She made a point to do whatever she can to rekindle their relationship long ago and the way she chose it was thru applying to a Call Center. BPO plays a major economic impact in today's society as many of our graduates ended up working in one and it is great that the team behind this film incorporated that in the story. Pokwang is a breath of fresh air. She has such great comedic timing which I believe is better than a boisterous approach in delivering a line to make it laughable for audiences like most of her contemporaries do. Enchong Dee's acting is a vast improvement compared from his previous endeavors. The chemistry for both him and Pokwang is touchingly sweet and humorous as they portray a mother- and- son relationship.  Jessy Mendiola may be one of the stars of this film, but I personally think, she needs to improve although she has the factor become a true star.

I must admit though the stars of the movie would be the supporting cast. Their chemistry with the films leads and themselves is great and funny to watch. It would've been a dud if it weren't for them so I say Kudos. The comedic timing is so on-point and the acting is not over the top which I appreciate very much.

Overall, I am very happy with my decision to watch this movie. I was surprisingly not disappointed and highly recommend everyone who wants to watch a feel good film to see this. I am embarrassed to say that I laugh so loud in so many scenes. So I hope you enjoy and have fun the same way I did!

When the Love is Gone starring Cristine Reyes and Gabby Concepcion

Category: Popcorn Movie

I do love watching locally- produced movies even though plots are mostly recycled and dialogues are mostly clichés but the things that I look forward to watching this film are how they interpret and acted the storylines. "When the Love is Gone" has the same elements that most recent films being produced and presented by Viva Films: Adultery/ Affair.

Emman (Gabby Concepcion) is a middle- aged successful businessman married to a homemaker played by Alice Dixon. The husband encourages his wife to pursue her passion as a pastry maker/ baker. Little did he know that his wife would have lesser and lesser time in serving her husband needs as time goes by because her little side business is growing at a pace that the husband does not appreciate. Cassie (Cristine Reyes) is in a loveless marriage to a neophyte politician who is an offspring of a political clan. Little did she know that her husband is into homosexual relationship. Due to their circumstances, they found themselves tangled in each other's arms, decided they have fallen in love and cannot live without each other. Sounds familiar? Yup! It is a typical Filipino movie but this story will never grow old because Filipinos do enjoy twisted love stories.

Although Gabby Concepcion is already past his prime, he still can carry his weight and create enough sizzle in a movie opposite the country's one of the hottest actresses of her generation. You also have to realize that his eldest daughter in real life is older than his on-screen partner. It is great to see that Mr. Concepcion took care of his physique over time. Although, he needs to improve his acting techniques. Alice Dixon hands down is the most courageous actress in Philippine Cinema today. A scene in the film showed her without any make-up or gloss to cover her imperfections? Wow! I do not know any actress in her age bracket would dare to do that especially in the big screen. And as usual Cristine Reyes, perfect skin and her sexiness just oozes in very scene she is in it plus she is a talented actress. BUT I still give the highlight of the film to Jake Cuenca. I have one word to describe his performance. WOW!!!!! I have always known that he can act but in this film is way beyond what I expected. He is so great in it and I wish he gets an award or recognition. And please give this guy more movies where can truly stretch is acting chops.

All in all, this movie is very enjoyable. VIVA has truly vindicated itself especially after The Secret Affair. The movie is well scripted, acted and the pacing is enough to keep the audiences interested.
