When the Love is Gone starring Cristine Reyes and Gabby Concepcion

Category: Popcorn Movie

I do love watching locally- produced movies even though plots are mostly recycled and dialogues are mostly clichés but the things that I look forward to watching this film are how they interpret and acted the storylines. "When the Love is Gone" has the same elements that most recent films being produced and presented by Viva Films: Adultery/ Affair.

Emman (Gabby Concepcion) is a middle- aged successful businessman married to a homemaker played by Alice Dixon. The husband encourages his wife to pursue her passion as a pastry maker/ baker. Little did he know that his wife would have lesser and lesser time in serving her husband needs as time goes by because her little side business is growing at a pace that the husband does not appreciate. Cassie (Cristine Reyes) is in a loveless marriage to a neophyte politician who is an offspring of a political clan. Little did she know that her husband is into homosexual relationship. Due to their circumstances, they found themselves tangled in each other's arms, decided they have fallen in love and cannot live without each other. Sounds familiar? Yup! It is a typical Filipino movie but this story will never grow old because Filipinos do enjoy twisted love stories.

Although Gabby Concepcion is already past his prime, he still can carry his weight and create enough sizzle in a movie opposite the country's one of the hottest actresses of her generation. You also have to realize that his eldest daughter in real life is older than his on-screen partner. It is great to see that Mr. Concepcion took care of his physique over time. Although, he needs to improve his acting techniques. Alice Dixon hands down is the most courageous actress in Philippine Cinema today. A scene in the film showed her without any make-up or gloss to cover her imperfections? Wow! I do not know any actress in her age bracket would dare to do that especially in the big screen. And as usual Cristine Reyes, perfect skin and her sexiness just oozes in very scene she is in it plus she is a talented actress. BUT I still give the highlight of the film to Jake Cuenca. I have one word to describe his performance. WOW!!!!! I have always known that he can act but in this film is way beyond what I expected. He is so great in it and I wish he gets an award or recognition. And please give this guy more movies where can truly stretch is acting chops.

All in all, this movie is very enjoyable. VIVA has truly vindicated itself especially after The Secret Affair. The movie is well scripted, acted and the pacing is enough to keep the audiences interested.
